Lake Kariba
Located on the Zambezi River, on the borders of Zimbabwe and Zambia, Lake Kariba is the second largest man-made lake in the world, stretching 140 miles and reaching 20 miles at its widest point.
Kariba’s dramatic vistas, spectacular sunsets and vibrant ecology make it a paradise for photographers, wildlife and fishing enthusiasts alike.
There is an abundance of things to see and do while aboard Kalai. Whether you are keen to fish, look at the wildlife or just relax and enjoy the scenery, our knowledgeable crew will tailor the journey according to your wishes.
Fishing
Lake Kariba is a fisherman's paradise, renowned for its bountiful waters and home to some fantastic species including Tigerfish,Tilapia, Cornish Jack, Bottlenose, Barbel and the mighty Vundu.
Tigerfish are considered by many to be one of the most exciting game fish pound for pound and have flourished in the rich waters of Lake Kariba.
All fishing equipment and bait for eight people are provided aboard Kalai and the crew are able to offer guidance and tips to guests who are keen to fish.
Birdwatching
Lake Kariba and its shores boast 480 bird species. From the majestic African fish eagle to egrets, herons and colourful kingfishers, bird enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to observe and photograph this wide variety of species.
It is highly recommended that guests bring binoculars.
Game Watching
Kalai and its tenders provide wonderful vantage points for spotting and observing the region’s rich wildlife along the lake’s shores. Animals commonly seen are elephant, hippo, impala, crocodile, baboons and waterbuck - occasionally lion, buffalo and zebra can be spotted.
Cruising Kariba’s waters at an unhurried pace allows superb wildlife viewing and Kalai’s knowledgeable crew will help you spot these magnificent animals and provide fascinating insights into their behaviours and habitats.
Victoria Falls
Located on the Zambezi River on the the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world and widely considered the largest in water volume and height. As such, it makes an unmissable excursion.
We recommend witnessing the scale and grandeur of the falls from the air with a plane trip to the falls. An excursion from Kalai can be arranged through Giles Raynor at Grand Air.

Game Walks & Drives
Guests may also wish to observe the region’s wildlife from a different perspective by exploring the wildlife reserves on land. There are a variety of safari options and these can be arranged with Giles Raynor at Grand Air.
